Georgian Public Defender meets EU, U.S. Ambassadors
Georgian Public Defender, Levan Ioseliani held a meeting with the EU and U.S. Ambassadors to Georgia, Pawel Herczynski and Robin Dunnigan.
During the meeting with the U.S. ambassador, the Public Defender spoke about the recent developments and activities of the Office, including visiting protesters at temporary detention centers and clinics, collection of materials for investigation and provision of information to the Special Investigation Service. He emphasized the need to respond to cases of ill-treatment by law enforcement officers.
The Ambassador thanked the Public Defender for his work in an emergency mode and the activities that the Office aimed at establishing the principles of human rights in Georgia.
In talks with Pawel Herczynski, Ioseliani discussed the recent developments in the country, challenges in terms of protecting freedom of expression, and use of excessive force by law enforcement officers, as well as the situation of those detained and injured during the protests and the examination of their cases by the Special Investigation Service.
