Georgian PM concludes official visit to Hungary

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and a government delegation have concluded an official visit to Hungary.

The head of Georgia’s government was seen off at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport by Hungary’s Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky.

Following the two-day official visit, the Prime Minister briefed the media. Kobakhidze said the Georgia-Hungary intergovernmental summit had examined cooperation prospects across all areas, with several memorandums signed covering political relations as well as collaboration in trade, economics, culture, education and agriculture.

“The government came to Budapest in practically full composition. Ministers met with their counterparts to discuss both progress achieved and future cooperation prospects in each sector,” he said.

“Memorandums were signed in four areas, envisaging deeper cooperation in specific sectors – political cooperation development, strengthening trade-economic and cultural ties, and collaboration in education and agriculture.

Once again, I thank Hungary for its exceptional support of our country. Hungary is the strongest supporter of our European integration, and for this, I thank personally Hungary’s Prime Minister and the Hungarian government. We will do everything to further strengthen bilateral relations between our countries,” the PM noted.

During the official visit, a formal reception ceremony for Georgia’s Prime Minister was held at the Carmelite Palace. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán hosted his Georgian counterpart for a face-to-face meeting, followed by the second session of the Georgia-Hungary intergovernmental summit, co-chaired by both prime ministers and a joint press conference.

As part of the official visit, PM Kobakhidze met with Hungarian President Tamás Sulyok and National Assembly Speaker László Kövér.
