Georgian and foreign nationals arrested in Batumi for illegal Uranium trade
Georgia’s State Security Service has uncovered a transnational crime involving the illegal sale and purchase of nuclear material.
Two individuals – one Georgian citizen and one foreign national – were arrested in Batumi in connection with the illicit trafficking of radioactive uranium.
According to the terms of the deal struck between the detainees, the illegal uranium sale was planned for three million US dollars.
The investigation is ongoing under Article 230, Part 1 of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which carries a penalty of five to ten years imprisonment.
