Ex-Finance Minister claims he learned about Chorchana checkpoint opening after media reports

Ivane Machavariani, former Minister of Finance, stated that he became aware of the opening of a checkpoint in the village of Chorchana only several weeks ago, after media reports.

Following a questioning at the prosecutor’s office regarding the issue, Machavariani explained to journalists that he provided the investigation with details about the situation.

“I was asked about the establishment of a checkpoint in Chorchana. I explained what the reality was. I learned about it from television after the matter gained attention. I had no prior knowledge before this. I only found out from what was reported in the media now, several weeks ago,” he said.

Ivane Machavariani served as Minister of Finance and Vice Prime Minister from 2018 to 2021.
