Batumi gained the title of ‘Europe’s Leading Emerging Tourism Destination’. The finest travel brands in Europe have been unveiled at a  gala ceremony of World Travel Awards in Madeira, Portugal.

Batumi was nominated for this Award for the first time and its competitors were such cities as Sofia (Bulgaria), Matera (Italy), Baku (Azerbaijan), Ljubljana (Slovakia), Kutna Hora (Czech Republic), Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and Derry (Northern Ireland).

Tornike Rizhvadze, Chairman of the Government of Adjara and Sulkhan Glonti, Chairman of the Department of Tourism of Adjara, as well as other members of the delegation attended the award ceremony.
