PM Garibashvili deems immoral using tragic death of TV Pirveli cameraman for political goals

“We saw them trying to use tragedy to achieve their political goals. What could be more immoral than trying to achieve your political goals through the tragedy of a deceased,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said at a briefing at the government administration.

According to him, all abusers guilty of Lekso Lashkarava’s death would be called to account.

“I would assess the recent days’ developments. Of course, this is another failed conspiracy against the state. The plot planned by the anti-state and anti-church forces failed and will never succeed in our country. We saw them trying to use this tragedy to achieve their political goals. What could be more immoral than trying to achieve your political goals through the tragedy of a deceased? No matter what the reason behind Lekso Lashkarava’s death is, all abusers will be punished severely. The police have already arrested four people. No violence is acceptable. We condemn, we will always condemn, and we will prevent any violence in the country,” Irakli Garibashvili said.

TV Pirveli cameraman Lekso Lashkarava died on Sunday after being assaulted by far-right activists on July 5. He was beaten in the Shame Movement office, stormed by anti-Tbilisi Pride members.

Interior Ministry launched a probe into the case under Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, involving incitement to suicide.
