MP Macharashvili: Where is Herczyński? He must explain why chair of his praised “pro-European party” was ousted by foreign citizen
“They claimed that democratic processes existed during the election of the chairperson of the National Movement, but once again, Ms. Bokuchava herself confirmed that no elections are held in the National Movement and that whatever their leader says is what happens,” said Guram Macharashvili, leader of the People’s Power party.
“In another case, Saakashvili stated his position. If you were truly democratically elected and represented the majority within the National Movement, then why are you leaving? And if this is not the case, then what is the point of boasting that the National Movement is a pro-European party where elections are held and democratic principles are respected?
Now, by your own decisions and statements, it has been confirmed that Saakashvili snapped his fingers and the chairperson immediately resigned, handing over the leadership to Nanuka Zhorzholiani, whom Saakashvili said he needed at this moment,” Macharashvili said.
According to him, this is the type of betrayal that the leaders of the National Movement have demonstrated not only toward their party but also toward the state.
“I am very curious where Mr. Herczyński [EU Ambassador] is now. He said that the National Movement is the party that should bring pro-Europeanism to the country. So where is he? Let me ask: why was the chairperson, elected by National Movement activists, removed with the wave of a hand?
Where is he to answer the voters of the National Movement? When you speak about a party that is anti-state, you expect the EU ambassador to present it to the public as a pro-European party. Come out and explain to the public why the chairperson of this ‘pro-European party,’ which you praise, was removed from office with the snap of a finger by a foreign citizen,” Macharashvili said.
