At the request of Italian law enforcement agencies, an individual wanted by an Interpol Red Notice, charged with facilitating large-scale illegal migration and membership in a criminal organization, was extradited from Georgia to Italy.
Officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) detained the wanted individual on Georgia’s territory. The investigation determined that in 2011-2019, the wanted individual participated in the transportation of illegal migrants to Italy through Turkiye and Greece, organizing money transfers and involvement of illegal migrants in the maritime transport sphere, their training and coordination of navigation-related issues.
At the application of the Georgian General Prosecutor’s Office, the extradition of the individual was established as admissible by the decision of the Tbilisi City Court.
On June 10, 2026, the Minister of Justice of Georgia issued an order on the extradition of the wanted person to the Republic of Italy, after which the wanted person was handed over by the employees of the Special Penitentiary Service to representatives of the competent authorities of the Republic of Italy.
In addition, other leaders of the same organized group were detained, and extradition procedures are ongoing. The Prosecutor’s Office pledged readiness to cooperate with law enforcers from partner states.
