Irakli Garibashvili refutes opposition party plans: "Who should I confront?"

Irakli Garibashvili, who has announced his retirement from politics, addressed speculation regarding the formation of an opposition party during a briefing at the party office, stating, “Who should I confront? I assure you, this discussion is pure speculation and deliberate disinformation spread by a few individuals that has no basis in truth.”

Garibashvili reiterated his reasons for stepping away from politics, emphasizing his belief in the party’s current direction.

“I have clearly conveyed the situation within the party. As an ordinary citizen, I must honestly say that Bidzina Ivanishvili is the guarantor of peace and stability in this country. I have fulfilled the honourable missions assigned to me by our party’s founder—first as a minister, then as Prime Minister, and finally as party chairman. I no longer see the need to remain in politics. I wish to spend time with my family, pursue personal goals, and explore new opportunities. I ask everyone to stop speculating about my resignation and future intentions. Please understand my decision to step back,” he explained.

Regarding his future endeavours, Garibashvili indicated that while he does not have concrete plans, he is likely to focus on the private sector.

“I aim to contribute to our country’s economic development in this new capacity, and you will hear more about it in the future,” he added.

When asked if he might consider a comeback to politics, Garibashvili stated, “Nothing is excluded. I will evaluate the situation, but for now, my primary motivation is to leave politics and dedicate more time to my family. Life will unfold from there. Updates on the party’s leadership will come later.”
