Carl Hartzell: Georgia's first Constitution conveys strong message to be part of EU family values

The EU Ambassador to Georgia, Carl Hartzell, believes Georgia’s first Constitution conveys a strong message to be a part of the European family values.

Hartzell said he was honored to take part in the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the first Constitution “because it was a Constitution that I as a European very much admirer.”

“It is a truly remarkable piece of legislation. I and my colleagues from the EU are very honored to be here to pay respect to this Constitution. Looking at progressive nature of this Constitution, the opportunity equality between men and women, upholding an electoral process with credibility, rule of law, and human rights, defined in terms of freedom of assembly, freedom of speech and freedom of media,” Hartzell stated.

Georgia celebrates the 100th anniversary of its first Constitution on 21 February.
