Authentic name of Lithuania to be officially used in Georgian language

Lietuva – Authentic name of Lithuania has been officially established in the Georgian language starting from today. The regarding recommendation has been issued by the State Language Department based on the decision taken by Commission of Experts on May 11.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, this decision represents a friendly gesture in response to the decision of Lithuanian State Language Commission on establishing the authentic name of Georgia in the Lithuanian language.

“The decisions of Lithuania as well as Georgia are very symbolic, as this year Lithuania celebrated the 100th anniversary of restoration of statehood and Georgia marks the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the First Democratic Republic in May,” – the Georgian Foreign Ministry says.

On May 3, the State Commission of Lithuanian Language approved the decision to establish the authentic name of Georgia in the Lithuanian language.
