Tea Tsulukiani: Investigative commission hearings reinforce our zero tolerance for UNM; Saakashvili belongs where he is

“Everything we hear in the commission confirms that our decision to adopt a zero-tolerance policy toward the United National Movement is justified, and we need to elevate this stance even further,” stated Tea Tsulukiani, Chairperson of the temporary investigative commission established in Parliament to probe into activities of the 2003-2012 government and its officials, during a meeting.

Tsulukiani emphasized the importance of transparency for the younger generation, asserting that nothing should be hidden.

“Not only the testimonies we are currently hearing, but also what we have already learned and worked on in various cases in the past, and what we will explore in the future through this commission, all reinforce our position on the United National Movement.

Today, Saakashvili is living in humane conditions, but he is where he belongs, and he should understand this—especially considering the words echoed in the Parliament of Georgia, where he once strode in with a rose in hand in 2003, diverting the country from its rightful path of development. As for future generations, while I won’t serve as your advisor, I believe it is crucial for young people, including our children, to know the truth. Nothing must remain concealed. This is the very reason our commission was established. Regardless of how painful it may be, they need to be informed. Of course, there is an appropriate age for discussing such matters.

Difficult truths may not be comprehensible at a young age, but we must ensure that they understand the past in a way that fosters analysis rather than aggression. We must cultivate this analytical ability in them, as we won’t always hold our current positions; moreover, we won’t always be here on Earth. What is left behind is significant, and the future generation—some of whom will become MPs, ministers, and leaders in various sectors, including academia—must know what is unacceptable. God forbid that our country encounters another Saakashvili, the Mkurnalidzes, Akhalais, Kalmakhelidzes, Patsatsias, Mukhadze, and others in power in the future. We extend our apologies to the honorable individuals who share these surnames, as sometimes one person’s actions can tarnish an entire family legacy,” Tsulukiani concluded.
