Tbilisi City Hall to fund expensive rheumatoid arthritis medication from September 1st

Tbilisi City Hall will begin funding expensive rheumatoid arthritis medication from September 1st.

Detailed information will be posted on Tbilisi City Hall’s website, while application submissions will begin in September, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze announced at today’s municipal government meeting.

According to him, citizens must contact the Municipal Department of Health and Social Services to receive the voucher necessary for funding.

“I want to address one important program whose launch was our pre-election promise. From September 1st, Tbilisi City Hall will fund expensive medication for rheumatoid arthritis treatment, which involves issuing materialized vouchers for receiving the expensive medication ‘Actemra.’

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, progressive autoimmune disease that causes joint inflammation, followed by their deformation, and ultimately leads to restricted movement and mobility.

With medication-based treatment, it is possible to halt disease progression and transition to its remission stage. As a result, program beneficiaries become functional and their quality of life significantly improves,” Kakha Kaladze stated.

According to his explanation, before applying, citizens must have been continuously registered in Tbilisi Municipality for the past two years and simultaneously be registered at the time of program enrollment.

“We won’t leave anyone facing problems alone. If we review the statistics, we’ll see how much assistance has been provided by our respective municipal services – we have various social programs, we fund operations, etc.,” Tbilisi City Hall’s information stated.
