Speaker: Georgia's First Constitution became fundamental cornerstone in fight for independence and sovereignty
“I congratulate you on the Day of the First Constitution. This document became a fundamental prerequisite for future generations in their struggle for independence and sovereignty,” writes Shalva Papuashvili, Chairman of the Georgian Parliament, on social media.
According to Papuashvili, the first constitution of Georgia was adopted just three days before Georgia’s Soviet occupation and acquired a crucial historical significance.
“On February 21, 1921, the First Republic of Georgia adopted the country’s constitution. Its adoption was accomplished just three days before Georgia’s Sovietization and acquired a crucial function. This document became a fundamental prerequisite for future generations in their struggle for independence and sovereignty.
I congratulate you on the Day of the First Constitution,” Shalva Papuashvili wrote.
