Second stage of Abastumani urban rehabilitation kicks off

The Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia announced a tender for the second stage of Abastumani resort urban rehabilitation works.

According to the Ministry, 18 buildings of the 19-20th centuries, Evgeny Kharadze National Observatory, and the ropeway constructed in 1982 were restored in 2020. The master plan of Abastumani Resort was elaborated.

Rehabilitation of the 77-kilometer-long Baghdati-Abastumani road continues, and water supply systems are being arranged.

The second stage of Abastumani urban rehabilitation envisages the restoration of the Otskhe riverbed, bridges, central and district roads. Arrangement of pavements, bicycle lanes, and other recreational and tourist infrastructure is planned.

The World Bank funds the rehabilitation works. The Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure expects Abastumani to be a fully-reconstructed and modern resort in 2022.
