Vake's Tsereteli and Cholokashvili streets reopen after major upgrade
A major infrastructure project has been completed in the capital – the full rehabilitation of Kakutsa Cholokashvili and Giorgi Tsereteli streets in the Vake district has been completed.
The works were carried out across a 13,000 square metre area, extending from the vicinity of Vake Park to Tskhneti Highway N6, which included both the complete renewal of underground utilities and the installation of modern standard road infrastructure.
Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze inspected the completed project alongside Deputy Mayor Giorgi Tkemaladze and Assembly Chairman Zurab Abashidze.
“We have completed another large-scale, significant infrastructure project, the rehabilitation of Cholokashvili and Tsereteli streets in the Vake district. The existing conditions here were dire. Therefore, the first thing we did was completely renew and reorganise the underground utilities. Within the project framework, underground bins were installed, lighting poles were mounted, and landscaping work was carried out. We had to work in 24-hour shifts, which created considerable discomfort in terms of noise. I would thank the local population for their patience and cooperation, as it is through their involvement that such projects are successfully carried out in the capital. I also wish to express my gratitude to all the company employees who participated in the project, and to every municipality employee. I don’t want to leave anyone out. We will not stop here and will continue to develop and build the city. We have many important infrastructure projects planned for the coming years,” declared Kakha Kaladze.
Within the project scope, water supply, sewerage, drainage, and gas supply networks were replaced and renewed. Additionally, electrical cables were placed underground, pavements were installed, road works were carried out, and asphalt surfaces were laid. For safety purposes, a reinforced concrete retaining wall was also constructed in the territory adjacent to Vake cemetery.
Furthermore, new outdoor lighting networks with modern energy-efficient LED fixtures were installed on both streets. Around 40 underground waste collection bins were installed, safety islands and zebra crossings were created, road markings were applied, traffic signs were mounted, and artificial intelligence-based “smart” traffic lights were installed. The existing street infrastructure was adapted for people with special needs.
In the project’s final stage, landscaping work was carried out in strips adjacent to both streets: irrigation systems were installed, 180 seedlings of various species were planted, and grass cover was laid over 2,100 square metres.
The project was jointly implemented by the City Hall’s Urban Infrastructure Development Service, the Transport and Urban Development Agency, Tbilservice Group, and the City Environmental Protection Service. The total cost of the works amounts to GEL 24 million.
It should be noted that the renovated streets now connect to the already rehabilitated Chavchavadze Avenue and Tskhneti Highway, creating a fully organised, modern transport and residential area.
According to the Tbilisi City Hall, the new infrastructure provides comfort and safety for pedestrians, public transport, and private vehicles alike.
