Vehicles loaded with frozen chicken imported from Germany and Egypt and sweet potatoes (batata) were stopped at the customs checkpoint, the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance said on Thursday.
Inspections revealed that 70% of the sweet potatoes were unfit for human consumption. Additionally, laboratory testing of samples taken from 27,000 kilograms of frozen chicken detected Salmonella, a pathogenic microorganism.
Per Resolution №463 of the Government of Georgia (September 20, 2019), the frozen chicken was returned to the exporting countries.
