PM Kobakhidze: EP resolution on Georgia undermines European bureaucracy's image, not our statehood or media independence
“This is already the sixth resolution adopted by the European Parliament that attacks our country. This is a very unfortunate event, though it can neither diminish our country, our statehood, nor media independence in Georgia,” Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze told Georgian journalists in Dubai.
The Head of Government noted that the regime serving in Georgia until 2012 was acting on orders from the same forces that are now initiating certain resolutions in the European Parliament.
“I want to recall once again that there was a regime in our country until 2012 that acted on orders from exactly the same forces that are initiating certain resolutions in the European Parliament today. Their signature move was attacking independent media. It was this regime that seized private television stations like Imedi and Rustavi 2, as well as other private broadcasters and the Public Broadcaster. This happened between 2004 and 2012 precisely on orders from those forces that are today initiating resolutions in the European Parliament.
Attacking independent media is the signature of these forces, the signature of the so-called Deep State, the same global party. Therefore, such acts don’t surprise us.
“I’ll remind you once again that this is already the sixth resolution adopted by the European Parliament that attacks our country. This is a regrettable event, though it cannot diminish our country, our statehood, or media independence in Georgia. However, all this will severely impact the perception of European bureaucracy in our society. This is a very unfortunate event,” stated the Prime Minister.
