PM discusses prospects for expanding cooperation with Regional CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports Group
Irakli Kobakhidze, Prime Minister of Georgia met the Regional Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Abu Dhabi Ports Group, Abdulaziz Zayed Al Shamsi, the Government Administration reported.
The meeting focused on the importance of the Middle Corridor transport and logistics route and, in this context, the role of the Tbilisi Dry Port project, which was implemented with investment from Abu Dhabi Ports Group.
The parties expressed their readiness to further expand cooperation, including in strategic logistics and transport projects.
It was noted that the Tbilisi Dry Port is a successful example of partnership. The facility began operation last year and, via the Middle Corridor, connects production hubs in West Asia with consumer markets in Eastern Europe through a network of both seaports and dry ports in Georgia, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Kazakhstan.
Abu Dhabi Ports Group is the owner of a 60% stake in the Tbilisi Dry Port and its main partner, managing the new logistics hub. To date, the company has invested 16 million USD in the Tbilisi Dry Port project, with the investment volume expected to increase as the project develops.
Abu Dhabi Ports Group is a major global player in the maritime and logistics sector, operating world-class ports, logistics centers and industrial zones. The company operates across the Middle East, Europe, Asia and Africa and employs over 6000 people.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Maka Bochorishvili; Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili and Head of Government Administration Levan Zhorzholiani.
