Parliament Speaker meets Hungarian President

The Georgian Parliament Speaker, Shalva Papuashvili, met with the President of Hungary, Tamás Šuyok, during an official visit to Hungary.

The parties welcomed the positive dynamics of Georgian-Hungarian relations. President Šuyok highlighted Georgia’s strategic importance to Hungary in the South Caucasus region. He underscored the shared ability of both nations to preserve their national identity, culture, and language in challenging geopolitical contexts and emphasized the strong historical and religious ties fostering mutual understanding between Georgia and Hungary.

Discussions focused on Georgian-Hungarian cooperation in trade, economy, energy, education, culture, and tourism. Shalva Papuashvili noted the productive collaboration between the two countries’ parliaments.

The meeting also addressed Georgia’s aspirations for European Union membership. Papuashvili expressed confidence that Georgia will be ready to join the EU by 2030. President Šuyok reaffirmed Hungary’s strong support for Georgia’s territorial integrity and its European integration efforts.
