Opposition MP proposes amendment to General Education Law

Khatia Dekanoidze, opposition MP and a EuroOptimists parliamentary political group member, initiated amendments to the Law on General Education.

Dekanoidze proposes expanding the role of the Board of Trustees in electing school directors. According to her, the latest practice showed that the education ministry presented director candidates at 900 schools, neither had competitors, and all were affiliated with the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party.

Khatia Dekanoidze stressed that the ruling party needs school directors to pressure teachers during elections. Therefore, another change has to be made in the Election Code.

“The draft bill on changes in the election code will be registered, by which school principals, their deputies and teachers will be restricted from the right to be members of the district election commissions,” she said.
