One of UNM leaders: Third round of negotiations to be crucial

Zaal Udumashvili, one of the leaders of the United National Movement party, said that the third round of negotiations delayed because the government has not yet agreed and drafted the proposal it will come up with to the negotiation table.

The opposition party representative believes that the third round of negotiations will be crucial, as it will define whether negotiations continue or Georgia has one-party parliament, which is highly likely.

“We are waiting for the proposal. We hope that it will be a reasonable proposal to be discussed and negotiated because the Georgian Dream is very well aware of the deadlock. I do not mean the political crisis only. It is an economic crisis, COVID crisis, which is compounded by a political crisis that exacerbates these two crises. So we have to look for a solution together. It is necessary to take reasonable steps, which first of all, the government should make,“ Zaal Udumashvili said.

Nine opposition parties that passed a 1% threshold to enter the new Georgian parliament refused to recognize the October 31 parliamentary election results, calling them rigged. The U.S. and EU Ambassadors to Georgia are facilitating the negotiations between the ruling Georgian Dream Party and the opposition, though the first two rounds ended in no promising results.
