SSG reports on foreign-funded provocations at parliament, Ukraine war Georgian fighters' involvement in criminal plans
“Due to interests of state security and citizens’ peaceful co-living, we would like to inform society that based on the obtained information, some groups attempt to organize provocations at parliament aimed at the development of destructive and violent scenarios. These groups are managed by foreign countries’ funding, leaders of parliamentary and non-parliamentary political parties, and heads of non-governmental organizations,” reads the State Security Service of Georgia (SSG) statement.
According to the SSG, Georgians living abroad, namely, Georgian fighters in Ukraine, are actively involved in criminal plans. They pledge readiness to arrive in Georgia and participate in the violence against the police.
“The aforementioned individuals keep active communication with their supporters in Georgia and consider plans to picket the Parliament, Government Administration and other administrative buildings.
These individuals consider attacking the Special Task Force that would result in tensions. To neutralize the Special Task Force and police, the organizers of violent activities instruct young protesters, in most cases without revealing genuine purposes, to bring flammable substances to produce so-called Molotov Cocktails and stones or heavy objects to use against law enforcers.
To provoke riots, chaos and law enforcement during the ongoing rallies, their organizers are guided by the instructions of foreign instructors and actively use violent methods learned in courses conducted by the CANVAS organization and Peter Ackerman, the purpose of which is the so-called “Maidanization” and provoking events similar to the 90s civil strife in the country.
As part of the destructive plan, some politicians and radical organizers consider it necessary to paralyze Tbilisi transport routes, and entrances of government institutions and block strategic roads, railways, and central avenues, setting up tents, blocking dislocation bases of law enforcers.
Foreign finances are used for the implementation of criminal plans, while cryptocurrency is used in most cases to conceal the trace. Regarding the use of cryptocurrency transactions, foreign instructors conducted training at the end of April, where organizers received instructions for covert financing of radical activities.
The organizers believe it necessary to provoke employees of law enforcement agencies to succeed. Furthermore, one shot from the interested party would lead to panic, injuries or casualties. It is in the interest of the organizers that the rallies result in casualty, they think this would increase protest wave and radicalism.
The protest organizers’ target of aggression are law enforcers. To demoralize and provoke them, methods of so-called Color Revolutions, menacing, bribery, a scenario of their moving into their flank aims to the collapse of state structures and overthrow the government violently.
We call on youngsters participating in the protest rallies not to follow provocations. We also warn the organizers that in case of implementation of their destructive plans, the law enforcers will carry out immediate actions in order not to escalate the events, exclude disorder in the country, civil confrontation and preserve peace,” reads the statement.
