According to Amiran Gamkrelidze, Head of the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), all viruses mutate. The coronavirus also suffered mutations, but it did not have a global impact on the epidemiological situation.
The discussion of virus mutations intensified after the so-called British strain was identified. Gamkrelidze explained that the British Covid-19 variant is more widespread, especially among young people.
The NCDC Head accented that three cases of the Covid-19 new strain have been confirmed in Georgia. The physicians identified 31 people connected with these three cases. Most of them are treated on an outpatient basis.
