“The Ministry of Internal Affairs calls on confronting parties once again to adhere to the rightful demands of the police and remain calm, not to contribute to the escalation of the conflict on the ground”, MIA released a statement on recent clashes that took place in Dmanisi municipality.
“The Ministry of Internal Affairs, as the agency responsible for ensuring rule of law and order, calls on the citizens gathered in Dmanisi to follow the requirements of the law and stay calm. The police will act within the frames of its mandate and respond to any violation of the law.
At this stage, as a result of investigative activities carried out by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it was established that on May 16 of the current year, locals confronted each other in Dmanisi which escalated into group violence. The police identified the persons involved in the confrontation. All necessary investigative and procedural activities are in progress within the frames of the ongoing investigation.
The employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are mobilized and maintain public order to prevent the recurrence of the confrontation in Dmanisi and prevent an artificial escalation of events.

The confrontation took place near one of the shops in Dmanisi yesterday. Interrogations continued throughout the night at the Dmanisi police station.
