Law enforcement foils large-scale drug smuggling into Georgia as foreign national is detained
Officers from the Adjara Main Department of the Central Criminal Police, in cooperation with the Customs Department of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance, have detained a foreign national on suspicion of illegal drug possession, storage, and smuggling into Georgia.
The individual, identified as U.T., born in 1985 and a citizen of the Republic of Turkey, was apprehended at the Sarpi customs checkpoint. During a thorough inspection of the vehicle driven by U.T., authorities seized a substantial quantity of narcotics, including MDMA and amphetamine.
The investigation is ongoing under Articles 260 and 262 of the Criminal Code, which stipulate a prison sentence of 8 to 12 years.
