Police arrest driver involved in Mtkvari Left Embankment car crash

Officers from the Patrol Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) have arrested a driver involved in a road traffic accident on the Left Embankment of the Mtkvari River in Tbilisi.

According to the ministry, the investigation revealed that on June 2 this year, the suspect posed a hazard while driving and collided with nearby vehicles. As a result, one of the drivers lost control of their vehicle and plunged into the Mtkvari River.

“The search operation for the missing driver is ongoing and continues around the clock. Alongside firefighters and rescue teams, a diving squad and all relevant specialised rescue equipment are deployed on-site. An investigation into the incident is underway under Article 276 of the Criminal Code,” the MIA statement read.
