“Bidzina Ivanishvili and his family serve as an example to all Georgians, with love for the country being the highest reward—a sentiment he embraces,” said Irakli Zarkua, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Diaspora Issues.
Zarkua made this statement in response to the U.S. Treasury Department’s imposition of sanctions on Bidzina Ivanishvili.
“Ivanishvili was already de fact sanctioned. Why? Because he refused to compromise the country’s interests or sell it out. That’s why he was sanctioned. From a patriot’s perspective, this is a badge of honor because he stood by Georgia. Yesterday, we spoke with Ivanishvili, and he shared his mindset: ‘I have been sanctioned for a long time; it means nothing to me. Love for the country is the greatest reward.’ He truly embodies this attitude, and his family sets an example for every Georgian,” said Zarkua.
