“The opposition is an absolute hotchpotch. I am genuinely curious about Tina Bokuchava’s fate. Is she actually the Chair, or has Saakashvili sacked her from the leadership of the United National Movement to make way for ‘Nanuli’ [Nanuka Zhorzholiani], who is currently on holiday, has not got the time just now, but will enter politics shortly?” remarked MP Irakli Zarkua, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Diaspora and Caucasus Issues.
According to Zarkua, chaos reigns within the opposition, with only three or four of them left in their “shack”.
“I honestly cannot make head or tail of it anymore; I am completely confused. Nanuli claims she was offered the post, while Bokuchava says she does not believe a word of it. How am I supposed to talk about this seriously? They are in utter chaos. There are three or four of them in that little shack; I do not even know what to call it anymore.
Why has this ‘shack’ culture resurfaced? Because a shack is all it ever was. What does it matter if they are sitting inside a proper room now? It is still just ‘Shack 3.0’ because they received a single order from abroad and completely miscalculated. We Georgians are southerners; we are emotional people, and we will not just let things slide.
They are constantly fighting each other for the title of ‘Supreme Leader’. What does it matter if they have written Saakashvili off? He is still fighting anyway. Frankly, I still think Saakashvili is the only one in the right here, because if the opposition has any supporters left at all, it is probably just Saakashvili’s misguided devotees.
‘Chergo’ [Chergoleishvili] is my absolute favourite. She does not have an army behind her, but she is a fighter nonetheless. They have such massive ambitions, yet they have absolutely no backing or foundation among the public. Where on earth does that level of ambition come from? But look, it is Chergo; just let her get on with it.
What we are witnessing right now is a total madhouse race, a circus. Let’s see who actually wins this race. When I say ‘mad’, I mean it in the best possible sense; they are politically insane,” Irakli Zarkua stated.
