MP Irakli Zarkua: Brussels' policy is based on blackmail and threats to punish people; they are devoid of European values

“We have already been punished by having our diplomatic passports revoked. We will apply for visas, and if we have to queue up, that is not a problem,” stated MP Irakli Zarkua, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Diaspora Issues.

According to him, Brussels’ policy is based on blackmail and threats.

“Brussels is not known for pragmatic politics. We have seen their unpragmatic decisions, including at the Black Sea Forum, where Armenia was invited, but Georgia was not. What does Armenia have to do with the Black Sea? That is Brussels’ policy.

Today, we are being punished by Brussels for not following their policy. We did not impose sanctions so as not to collapse our economy. Georgia is the cradle of wine, yet they have surpassed us in exports, whilst ranking first in petroleum trade with Russia. That is their policy. We were expected to open a second front, but we refused. It is a consequence of this policy that Georgia enjoys peace today, while the rest of the region is locked in debate over its very survival. Brussels’ policy is based on blackmail and threats to punish the people. The only thing they have left is to punish the Georgian people. We have already been punished by having our diplomatic passports revoked; it is not a problem, we will get visas. If we have to queue up, it is not a problem. Brussels’ policy is completely devoid of European values,” Zarkua stated.
