Immunization Council to decide on Sinopharm vaccine use

The Immunization Council on Friday will decide whether to use the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine before it gets the final approval of the World Health Organization (WHO) or not.

Amiran Gamkrelidze, Head of the National Center for Diseases Control and Public Health (NCDC), will present his viewpoints during the Council meeting. A consensus is needed for approval of this Covid-19 vaccine.

Georgia greenlit the Chinese Sinopharm coronavirus vaccine to enter the country following the Hungarian regulator’s approval for the jab. It secured 100,000 Sinopharm vaccines. The vaccines were brought to the country on April 3.

Health Minister Ekaterine Tikaradze said that more than 40 million people got the Sinopharm jab worldwide. Tikaradze stressed that the Sinopharm vaccine credibility was out of the question.
