GPB Dir/Gen Tinatin Berdzenishvili: It is a united aid/solidarity action on behalf of Georgian citizens, and the Georgian Public Broadcaster stands where Georgia is

GPB First Channel, together with the Red Cross, is running a We for Ukraine charity marathon in support of the Ukrainian people and as a sign of solidarity with the Ukrainian Public Broadcaster.

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) stands united as never before. It is a rally of solidarity of public broadcasters across Europe. The charity marathon, which sprang to life in Warsaw, will be joined by Tbilisi and Prague today and will be continued in Tallinn, Bucharest and other European capitals. The goal is the same – Ukrainian people.

Tinatin Berdzenishvili, Director General of the Georgian Public Broadcaster, made a statement regarding the marathon:

“Today, we are witnessing epochal events. These toughest days are our most recent, most important history. Today our live broadcast is a broadcast of the Ukrainian Public Broadcaster as a sign of solidarity.

The Georgian Public Broadcaster, together with the Red Cross, is holding a charity marathon this evening to help Ukraine. The solidarity marathon started in Warsaw. It will continue in other countries throughout Europe.

The First Channel has a 24-hour hotline to help the Ukrainian citizens in Georgia. We have been receiving many calls from people who are ready to offer genuine support. Today each of them will get the opportunity to contribute to the solidarity action. With the support of Red Cross Georgia, funds raised from the marathon will be donated to those most in need during the war.

It is a united aid/solidarity action on behalf of Georgian citizens, and the Georgian Public Broadcaster stands where Georgia is,” Tinatin Berdzenishvili stated.
