The First Channel of the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) will provide its audience with sports events from Eurovision Sport on the new streaming platform, 1tvplay.ge.

Eurovision Sport is a new streaming service launched by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), offering live and recorded coverage of sports events from major European public broadcasters and various international federations.

“Europe’s most important sports streaming platform, Eurovision Sport, has integrated with the BVOD platform of the GPB First Channel – 1tvplay.ge. The First Channel platform offers outstanding sports events to the Georgian audience renowned for its passion for sports. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) launched Eurovision Sport just days ago. With active cooperation and engagement, the platform is now available to our audience,” said GPB Director General Tinatin Berdzenishvili.

“Eurovision Sport is a game-changer for sports fans across Europe and right around the world. We firmly believe that sport should be for all. Our public service media members already bring many of the world’s leading sporting events to audiences free-to-air and this new digital platform will provide wrap-around coverage, so they never have to miss a moment of their favourite event. Currently, only a third of sports fans have access to premium sports channels. Through its free streaming, we hope Eurovision Sport will democratise access to live sports coverage and help grow individual sports through visibility and engagement, encouraging greater participation and making sure we are all “united by sport,” declared Noel Curran, the EBU’s Director General.

The EBU currently manages the media rights for 14 sports on behalf of public service media, delivering over 43,000 hours of sport a year through agreements with 28 international sports federations.

1tvplay.ge, the first free streaming platform in Georgia, created by the GPB First Channel, has been offering viewers high-quality and diverse projects, including coverage of significant sports events such as the 2024 Olympic Games and the European Football Championship.
