Gov't places Lentekhi municipality under lockdown

In order to prevent further spread of coronavirus, Lentekhi municipality will be placed under lockdown,” Georgian PM’s spokesperson Irakli Chikovani announced today.

According to the PM’s adviser, the entry and exit points to Lentekhi Municipality will be controlled by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the forces of the Ministry of Defense. Proactive thermal screening is already being carried out at the location by local self-governance representatives and medical personnel.

“A case of internal transmission of the coronavirus was registered in Lentekhi. Four cases were confirmed, which allows us to take more active and prompt preventive measures in this municipality. Correspondingly, on the advice of epidemiologists and medical professionals, as well as on the basis of information received, we have decided to place Lentekhi Municipality under full quarantine, which means that Lentekhi Municipality will be under the same conditions as the municipalities of Marneuli and Bolnisi. This decision stems from the fact that we want to do everything possible to limit internal transmission as much as possible and to prevent the expansion of this hotspot. Starting today, in addition to the restrictions imposed under the state of emergency, it will also be prohibited to enter or leave Lentekhi. Only local residents will be able to move around for essential needs, such as buying food and medicine, or receiving medical care,” Chikovani said.
