The director of the Lentekhi Municipality Jokia Meshveliani Culture Center has been detained on charges of taking bribes, the Investigation Service of the Finance Ministry reported at the briefing.

The Investigation Service detained the charged individual red-handed while taking one part of the bribe in the amount of GEL 7,000.

The Service determined that the detainee demanded GEL 20 thousand for renting one of the halls to an ensemble, of which 5 thousand had to be transferred officially to the center account, while 15 thousand was taken in cash. The Center Director prepared two contracts to conceal the crime.

An investigation is opened under Article 338 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. The detainee faces 6 to 9 years in prison if convicted. Further investigation is in progress to reveal other collaborators in the crime.
