Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II condoled to Israeli President and people over the April 30 tragedy on Mount Meron.

“Your Excellency, The accident on Mount Meron yesterday caused widespread grief and sympathy. We express deep sorrow and please, extend our condolence to families and relatives of victims, Israeli people,” reads the condolence letter of Georgian Patriarch addressed to Israeli President Reuben Rivlin.

A crush during a religious celebration at Israel’s Mount Meron killed at least 45 worshipers on April 30. An estimated 50,000 to 100,000 people had crowded onto the mountain to celebrate the Lag B’Omer holiday.
