Georgian judoka Tushishvili defeats world champion to reach final

Georgia’s Guram Tushishvili has secured his place in the men’s heavyweight judo final at the World Championships in Budapest after defeating the reigning world champion on Thursday.

The Georgian judoka overcame South Korea’s Kim in the +100kg semi-final with an ippon victory in extra time, setting up a gold medal bout against neutral athlete Inal Tasoev.

The final session begins at 20:00 local time.

Tushishvili’s victory adds to Georgia’s impressive medal haul at the championships, which began on 13 June.

The Georgian team has already secured three medals: Eter Liparteliani claimed gold in the women’s 57kg category, Tato Grigalashvili took silver in the men’s 81kg division, and Luka Maissuradze won bronze in the 90kg class.
