At the ongoing European Judo Championship in Tbilisi, Georgia’s team captain Guram Tushishvili (+100 kg) defeated his main rival, two-time Olympic champion Lukáš Krpálek, in the final to claim his third European title. With this victory, Tushishvili secured the fourth gold medal for the Georgian national team at the championship.
The Georgian national team delivered a historic performance, finishing first in the overall standings with a total of seven medals: four gold, two silver, and one bronze.
European champions for Georgia are Eter Liparteliani (57 kg), Lasha Shavdatuashvili (73 kg), Luka Maisuradze (90 kg) and Guram Tushishvili (+100 kg). Giorgi Sardalashvili (60 kg) and Tato Grigalashvili (81 kg) won silver medals, and Ilia Sulamanidze (100 kg) became the bronze medalist.
