The Georgian Embassy in U.S. congratulates U.S. citizen on Thanksgiving Day and writes about the Georgian legendary chess player Nona Gaprindashvili in Facebook.

The statement says that traditionally talented and courageous people are remembered on Thanksgiving Day.

“Happy Thanksgiving! We are thankful to the talented and courageous people, who shine bright and bring pride to our country. Such is a Georgian legendary woman we thought to introduce to you today — Mrs. Nona Gaprindashvili — five-time Women’s World Chess Champion and the first woman to be awarded the GRANDMASTER title by FIDE in 1978. Most recently, in 2019, Nona Gaprindashvili won for the 7th time the World Senior Chess Championship.

For those inspired by the wonderful movie The Queen’s Gambit, a real life chess legend NONA playing 28 chess players in U.K. In 1965,” reads the statement.

It is noteworthy that there are men chess players on this photo while one of the heroes of Queen’s Gambit says that Nona Gaprindashvili has never played against a man chess player.
