Georgian Economy Minister meets Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure

Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, met with Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, during the 6th session of the Georgia-Turkey Intergovernmental Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation held in Tbilisi. The session was co-chaired by both ministers and centered around deepening bilateral economic ties.

“We had a very fruitful meeting with the Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure. Discussions focused on strengthening trade and economic cooperation, especially in the area of transport and ongoing infrastructure projects implemented by the Georgian government,” said Minister Kvrivishvili.

She emphasized that these projects, including the construction of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port and major highway developments, are “pivotal” for advancing the Middle Corridor and reinforcing Georgia’s role as a regional transit hub.

Progress on the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project was also reviewed. Kvrivishvili noted the strategic importance of this corridor not only for Georgia but also for Azerbaijan and Turkey.

According to the Economy Ministry, transport, tourism, and aviation were among the key sectors discussed. The ministers explored ways to further enhance bilateral cooperation, including prospects for launching new air routes. Kvrivishvili revealed that talks have already begun with Turkish Airlines on a potential direct flight between Ankara and Tbilisi.

“We are working with Turkish Airlines on launching a direct Ankara–Tbilisi route, which will strengthen connectivity and people-to-people ties between our countries,” she stated.

Turkish Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu also hailed the meetings as “productive” and reiterated his country’s commitment to deepening cooperation across multiple transport sectors, including road, rail, and maritime links.

“We reviewed a broad spectrum of issues, with a particular focus on transportation. I am confident that our collaboration will continue to grow stronger,” Uraloğlu said.
