Georgian Defence Minister partakes in Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting

Georgian Defence Minister Irakli Chikovani participated in the 25th meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group at Ramstein Air Base in Germany.

According to the Ministry’s press office, the meeting was attended by heads of defense agencies and high-ranking officials from countries supporting Ukraine.

“The Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting was opened by the U.S. Secretary of Defense. At the 25th meeting, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke alongside Lloyd Austin. They reviewed the situation of the ongoing war in Ukraine and discussed the urgent and long-term need for coordinated military assistance to Ukraine. The U.S. Secretary of Defense talked about the next assistance package for Ukraine and also noted that this would be his last participation in the Contact Group meeting.

The Ukraine Defense Contact Group was established in April 2022 at the initiative of the United States and unites more than 50 countries supporting Ukraine,” reads the statement.
