The Enguri Bridge Crossing Point opened on July 5 so that locals residing across the occupied Abkhazia region will freely enter the territory controlled by the Georgian central government.
According to the Office of State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality, the occupation regime imposed restrictions on free movement a year ago.
Following the efforts of the international organizations to ease the ban, the elderly, persons with disabilities and families with many children were admitted to free movement from February 11, 2021.
“The Georgian central government applies all the available mechanisms and engagement of international partners to ensure the fundamental right of free movement to the locals residing across the occupied regions,” the Office of State Minister said in a statement.
