Ambassador of Iran to Georgia: Amendments should be made in visa-free regulations

Ambassador of Iran to Georgia speaks about the necessity of amendments to the agreement signed in 2010 on visa-free regime between the two countries.

Ambassador Seyed Javad Ghavam Shahidi does not exclude that the problems related to the arrival of Iranian citizens in Georgia are related to the existing norms in this document, according to which Iranian citizens have the right to stay in Georgia within 45 days. There is no restriction on repeated visits. The document does not provide the difference between tourist and business trips.

The Ambassador said that the problem took an organized character.

“The 2010 agreement does not meet the current requirements and it should be changed. The 45-day period includes tourism and business trips. If within 45 days the Iranian citizen starts the economic activity, he/she is asked why he/she does it. We are ready to amend the regulations,” – the Ambassador said.

The diplomat notes that the restoration of the visa regime for Iranian citizens is not on the agenda.
