Speaker: Lithuania’s visa decision violates EU-Georgia international agreement

The Georgian Parliament Speaker, Shalva Papuashvili, has responded to Lithuania’s decision to revoke visa-free travel for Georgian holders of diplomatic and service passports.

In a social media post, Papuashvili stated that the move constitutes a clear violation of the 2010 EU-Georgia agreement on visa facilitation and lacks any legal justification.

“These decisions grossly and unjustifiably breach the 2010 international agreement on the facilitation of visa issuance between the European Union and Georgia. The EU and its member states must uphold their international legal commitments and respect the rules-based international order.

P.S. We should also remember that under the 2010 agreement, visa-free travel initially applied only to the elite of Saakashvili’s dictatorial regime, while ordinary citizens gained visa-free access only in 2017 thanks to the efforts of the Georgian Dream government,” he wrote.

Lithuania has introduced a visa requirement for Georgian citizens holding diplomatic and service passports.
