Ukraine’s border service confirms that Saakashvili was expelled to Poland

Mikheil Saakashvili, Georgia’s former president and ex-governor of Odessa region has been expelled to Poland, a spokesman for Ukraine’s border service Oleh Slobodyan said on Monday.

“This person was on Ukrainian territory illegally and therefore, in compliance with all legal procedures, he was returned to the country from where he arrived,” – spokesman said.

The representatives of Saakashvili’s party say that the charter plane will land the Warsaw Airport in a few minutes.

According to Ukrainian media, Saakashvili was put on a charter flight and flew off to Poland at 16:00 local time.

As local media notes this was not a deportation but a readmission. That is, the return of an illegal immigrant to the country from where they illegally arrived in Ukraine.

The unidentified armed persons detained Mikheil Saakashvili at the restaurant “Suluguni” in Kiev earlier this afternoon.  The video footage reflecting the detention of Mikheil Saakashvili was released in social network.
