Landslide protection works underway on Vashlijvari slope landslide

Landslide protection works kicked off on the Vashlijvari slope near Machavariani Street in the Georgian capital Tbilisi on Monday.

Deputy Tbilisi Mayor Irakli Bendeliani claims ongoing works could hinder the creeping landslide from rapidly moving down.

Bendeliani pledges Tbilisi City Hall would take other measures as well.

“Tbilisi City Hall will install a special monitoring system to obtain more detailed information about the ongoing processes in the landslide-prone area this week,” he added.

Tbilisi City Hall announced the landslide on March 15, and traffic in the area has been banned since March 16.
