Family of Doctor Vazha Gaprindashvili demands establishment of Coordination Council and meeting with PM

Family members of Doctor Vazha Gaprindashvili, who remains arrested by the occupational regime, demands establishment of a Coordination Council and a meeting with Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia.

Vazha Gaprindashvili’s wife Tamila Lapanashvili said that the engagement of the government and efforts of the international organizations gave no results.

A protest will be held at Republican Square in Tbilisi on December 15 and then at the occupational line regarding the illegally arrested doctor’s case. “This will be an activity of the medical society, of all those regardless party, religious or ethnic background, to whom the captivity of a patriot person matters,” Lapanashvili said.

The doctor’s wife said that it was important to show solidarity so that everybody could see the power of a peaceful protest. Lapanashvili also called on the International Red Cross to pay attention to the conditions of the imprisoned doctor since there was a problem of clothes and food in Tskhinvali isolator.

The court trial into the case of Doctor Vazha Gaprindashvili was held on December 13. According to the decision of the court, Gaprindashvili was left in imprisonment.

Tbilisi-based doctor Vazha Gaprindashvili was illegally detained by Russian occupation forces near the occupation line with Akhalgori Municipality on November 9. He was sent to two-month pretrial detention on November 15.

Vazha Gaprindashvili was charged with “illegally crossing the border” under article 322 of the criminal code of Russia.
