EU Ambassador to Georgia – Next round of negotiations between government and opposition should take place as soon as possible

The dialogue is absolutely necessary to avoid escalation of tension – said Carl Hartzell, Ambassador of the European Union to Georgia.

Hartzell said he believed that the next round of negotiations between the government and opposition should take place as soon as possible. “We should know how to reduce tension when violence takes place. Violence is a bad sign and must be perceived seriously,” EU Ambassador said.

According to EU Ambassador to Georgia, the EU is currently in a dialogue regime with various players of talks to determine what a conclusion of the first round of negotiations was and which steps have to be taken to make the next meeting more productive and beneficial.

The so-called German Model of elections was the main topic for discussions between representatives of the ruling Georgian Dream party and opposition during the first round of negotiations on November 30.

The Georgian opposition sees the adoption of the German Model of election system as the way out of the current political crisis in the country. Representatives of the Diplomatic Corps attended the meeting, which continued for about 6 hours.
