Signallers from the Army Reserves conduct their training in Germany along side members of their sister unit. “It’s all about developing our relationship with 16 Signal Regiment,” says Lieutenant Colonel Dominique Cairns, Commanding Officer Officer of 37 Signal Regiment. Her Army Reserve regiment is paired with its regular counterpart as part of the new integrated structure of the British Army, and 16SR, based in Elmpt Germany, is hosting 115 members of 37SR for its annual two-week training camp. It is a relationship which will only become closer once 16SR returns from Germany to its new home at MoD Stafford in 2015. Exercise Global Total builds further on the success of the deployment of a cohort of 14 soldiers and officers from Lt Col Cairns’ regiment alongside 16SR in Afghanistan last year. She said: “Not only do we get better training but we also develop lots of contacts and it brings us closer together. “We have been planning for this exercise for 12 months and have started planning for next year’s while we are here. “It would be hugely demanding to get our vehicles out here so for 16 Signals to support us with their equipment is a tremendous help.” NOTE TO DESKS: MoD release authorised handout images.
