WHO recommends to eschew taking Ibuprofen for COVID-19 symptoms

The World Health Organization has suggested that people with coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms should avoid taking Ibuprofen, after French officials announced that anti-inflammatory drugs could worsen the effects of the novel virus.

French Health Minister Veran relies on the recent research published in The Lancet medical journal. The new study claims that an enzyme amplified by anti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen could worsen COVID-19 infections.

WHO spokesman Christian Lindmeier suggests paracetamol in case of fever.

“In the meantime, we recommend using rather paracetamol, and do not use Ibuprofen as self-medication. That’s important,” Lindmeier stressed.

The COVID-19 has infected around 190,000 people worldwide and killed more than 7,800.
